Summary/Abstract: Slovakia is experiencing a profound identity crisis reflected in political, cultural, and religious spheres, revealing tensions between Western orientation and nostalgic ties to the East. Social polarization manifests through the rise of populism and extremism, coupled with rhetoric about preserving “traditional values,” while globalization introduces new cultural challenges. The cultural sector faces political pressure, sparking protests and debates on freedom of expression. Within the Church, divisions deepen between conservative voices and those advocating openness, a conflict often exploited by populist movements. Anger and frustration permeate both ends of the spectrum—some reject Western structures, others fear democratic erosion. The author argues that crisis can become an opportunity for renewal if society accepts it and responds with hope. Theology and the Church can support this process by creating spaces for dialogue and reflection and by emphasizing the Gospel’s message of hope. Hope emerges as a key principle enabling transformation and reconciliation, paving the way for collective growth.
