Summary/Abstract: This article presents the International Written Translation Contest “Proba Pera”, traditionally organized by the Center for Russian Studies and the Department of Russian Language at Shumen University “Episkop Konstantin Preslavski”. The contest is defined as an important educational and creative extracurricular initiative that, over the years, has established itself as a space for professional expression, creative inspiration, and intercultural dialogue. The focus is placed on the interaction between language, culture, and creativity in the process of translation. The objectives, structure, and evaluation criteria of the contest foster the development of translation competence and critical thinking among students specializing in Russian language programs. The article emphasizes the role of this initiative as a platform for self-expression, a source of motivation, and a means of professional development for future translators, as well as its contribution to maintaining a vital connection between tradition and contemporary trends in the art of translation.
