Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to show the key elements of Christian hope against the background of the ‘great hopes’ present in contemporary cultural currents and public debates. These are usually concepts related to the expectation of a new man, a new society and a new world, which are the result of the efforts of mankind and limited to an intra-historical perspective. In contrast, the Gospel of Christ proposes a hope that goes beyond this temporal perspective. Its centre is the Per-son of Jesus Christ, risen and alive, and therefore also present in all the struggles of individual human beings and human societies. This hope embraces the expec-tation of individual and social salvation and is therefore also the source of Chris-tian commitment to building a better world.
