Summary/Abstract: The article aims to present Maria Dłuska’s postwar academic work as an example ofa uniquely implemented model of engaged humanities characteristic of the generationof scholars born at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, which appearsexceptionally distinct for Dłuska, the author of Próba teorii wiersza polskiego (A PreliminaryTheory of Polish Poem). Often stereotyped as inaccessible, Dłuska sought to positionher literary studies as something accessible. Florian Znaniecki’s well-known typology ofscholars’ social roles provides the theoretical framework that serves as an introductionto the conducted analyses. The main methodological inspirations come from thelatest approaches to the history of science, which emphasize the role of biographicalexperiences situated in political and social contexts.
