Summary/Abstract: The article (part one) examines the historical development of the legal framework for the protection of non-registered trademarks under Bulgarian law in the period 1968–2019 and under Regulation (EC) 2017/1001 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 14 June 2017 on the EU trademark, and analyzes the legislator‘s objective in providing such protection.
