Summary/Abstract: The present article is aimed at examining practices in the Republic of Bulgaria related to the establishment of early contact between mother and baby, as well as those connected with the application of certain techniques for pre- and perinatal stimulation. In addition, the data obtained from the survey were used to establish correlations between these indicators and certain aspects of children’s speech development. The results of the correlation and regression analysis show extremely contradictory outcomes: the same predictors exert opposite effects on different components of language and speech development, while certain stimulation techniques appear to have a negative impact on the development of speech skills. Such results highlight the need for a more precise information selection, necessarily involving professional evaluation. Furthermore, they point to the idea that individual techniques for pre- and perinatal stimulation should be chosen in an entirely personalized manner and applied only after parents have been thoroughly informed and prepared.
