Summary/Abstract: This study examines how applied voltage affects the performance of a three-compartment electrodialysis (ED) system using a 1 g/L sodium chloride model solution. Experiments at 5 V, 10 V, and 15 V showed that higher voltages significantly increase ion migration rates. After 450 minutes, desalination efficiency reached 42%, 85%, and 94% at 5 V, 10 V, and 15 V, respectively, based on conductivity reduction in the diluate chamber. Concurrently, conductivity rose in the concentrate compartments, and catholyte pH sharply increased—by 3.51 units at 15 V—due to hydroxide formation. Chloride analysis confirmed accumulation in the anolyte and partial oxidation to chlorine gas. Overall, increased voltage enhances desalination but also intensifies side reactions, highlighting the need for optimized operating conditions
