Summary/Abstract: In the context of a global economy and a high degree of financial digitalization, the need for in-depth economic and financial literacy among students is becoming more and more significant. This article focuses on the shortage of study time and systematic training in economics in the Bulgarian educational system, which leads to limited skills for rational financial behavior among young people. It is emphasized that economic knowledge should not be limited to elective modules, as it is an essential part of the basic culture of the modern citizen. Data from the international survey PISA 2018 show an alarming share of students with low financial literacy, which necessitates the need for more classes in economics. It is proposed to integrate a variety of practical forms of training - simulations, analysis of real cases, educational projects, investment games and the use of digital tools - in order to develop critical thinking and skills to deal with real economic challenges. It is argued that this is not only a pedagogical, but also a strategic need to prepare young people for life and the labor market
