Summary/Abstract: In continuation of the paper published in the previous issue of this journal, this article examines the work of the British vice-consul in Constanța (Kustendjie), Frank Fremoult Sankey. Upon his arrival in the Black Sea port in 1860, coinciding with the inauguration of the railway between Cernavodă and Constanța, Sankey confronted numerous challenges pertinent to the British colony and the local Ionian Greeks. These included the uncooperative or even discriminatory posture of the Ottoman authorities towards the “Europeans” of the city, the escalating criminal activity in Dobrogea, and the state of the city’s places of worship. The text is derived from a series of unpublished documents held in the British archives, eight of which are reproduced in the annex.
