Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the novel ‘In falschen Gelei sen’ (1901) by Anton Schott (1866-1945). It deals with the German-Czech nationality conflict and can therefore be assigned to the genre of ‘borderland literature’ (‘Grenzlandliteratur’). However, it also has characteristics that are nontypical for this genre. In addition, there are testimonies from Schott according to which his novel was primarily based o n experience of completely different kinds of problems. The article shows that these inhomogeneities and inconsistencies also had an imp act on the reception of Schott ’s novel. At the same time, it is argued that this novel is an interesting literary source precisely because of these inconsistencies.
