Lev Kopelev and the Dialogue of Cultures

Summary/Abstract: Russian intellectual studies are indebted to the cultural critic, historian, writer, and translator of German literature Lev Zinovievich Kopelev (1912-1997). For many years Lev Kopelev persistently and convincingly advocated the search for historical understanding between Russians and Germans - the Russian-German dialogue of cultures. Despite the publication in Russia of historical sources on the problem of the Russian-German dialogue of cultures, in particular, the materials of the Wuppertal project, and the publication of Kopelev's works, his role in establishing and developing a dialogue between Russia and Germany on topical issues of history and modernity still needs further investigation. Our article is devoted to drawing attention to this problem.
