Evaluating the influence of personal qualities and character traits on the professional self-identity of pedagogical university students

Summary/Abstract: Introduction. The article examines the problem of finding factors that determine the professional self-identity of pedagogical universities students and their weak motivation to work at school. The purpose of the study is to identify the degree of influence of personal qualities and character traits of pedagogical universities students on their inclination to the chosen profession. Materials and Methods. The research methods used were theoretical analysis of the literature on the problem, comparative analytical review of sources, quantitative, qualitative and interpretative methods. Quantitative and qualitative methods included conducting a survey and online testing for career guidance with subsequent interpretation of the results based on the statistical criteria of Shapiro-Wilk, Pearson 𝜒 2 and Student's t-test. The study involved 65 students of the pedagogical university. Results. The article presents a theoretical review and the results of studying the problem of choosing and accepting the future profession of a teacher by students of pedagogical universities. Based on the data obtained, the following was revealed: the connection between the attitude to work at school after graduation and the time of making the decision to enter a pedagogical university; the influence of personal qualities and character traits of pedagogical university students on their professional selfidentity and inclination towards the teaching profession. Conclusions. As a result of the conducted research, personal qualities and character traits of pedagogical university students were identified, which determine their professional self-identity and inclination to work as a teacher after graduation.
