Summary/Abstract: This article explores the image of the Dobrudjan cities in the 17th century and namely, the image of Babadag, as it is presented in the writings of the Ottoman traveller Evliya Çelebi. The choice of this topic is motivated by the personal interest in the writings of the Ottoman travellers from the Early Modern period, as well as by the preoccupation with the history of Ottoman Dobrudja, in the context of a limited assumption of the Ottoman past by the modern Romanian historiography. For the research, we must mention the use of the fragmentary edition, translated into Romanian, of Evliya Çelebi’s travel writings and its critical edition in Turkish prepared by Seyit Ali Kahraman and Yücel Dağlı. This analysis underlines the integration of the Dobrudjan space in the complex Ottoman state construction, mainly the fact that the cities from this province – especially Babadag – used to reflect the values of the Ottoman civilization and of the Islamic piety through the edifices built up and also through the daily life of the people. The relevance of this approach resides in the opportunity for a more nuanced, improved, and unbiased comprehension of the Ottoman past of Dobrudja
