Summary/Abstract: The text presents the twinning between the cities of Shumen and Kherson as a cultural and social phenomenon during the period 1962 – 1989. The overall social and political situation in the context of which the cooperation between the two cities took place is examined – with the determining place of the Soviet ideological paradigm in the shaping of the central urban space. The semiotization of Kherson in the cultural life of Shumen is traced as a consistent imposition of a system of cultural signs reflecting the leading ideology of Sovietization, based of the Slavic idea and the family metaphor for fraternal peoples, and as a presence in the sphere of art and literature.
