Development of competences for lifelong learning using non – formal adults ’ technological education

Summary/Abstract: The paper focuses on the analysis of nonformal adults’ learning of technologies which is mostly related to training of technological competencies, but it offers a possibility to achieve also key competencies for lifelong learning therefore the aim of the paper is to present the results of the research showing the development of lifelong learning competencies through non-formal learning of technologies. The first part of the paper presents theoretical discussions about the importance of key competencies for lifelong learning in nowadays adults’ lives. In the second part the results of the questionnaire survey are analysed. The conclusions are presented in the end of the article. Research methods applied: analysis of scientific literature and education policy documents and a questionnaire survey (101 respondents). The results of the research have proved that during non-formal technologies learning all key competencies for lifelong learning are being developed. The competencies of cultural awareness and expression, communication in the mother tongue, and initiative and entrepreneurship are mostly developed, while digital competence and foreign language skills – only a little bit. Correlation results prove the complexity of development of key competencies for lifelong learning and show that development of lifelong learning competencies through adults’ technologies learning is mostly influenced by the time of participation in non-formal activity – longer participation in non-formal technological education allows developing creative abilities of a person, initiative and entrepreneurship, and digital competence.
