Summary/Abstract: Two long-standing women writers, two unmistakable voices of Romanian literature, Ariadna Şalari, also known as MaiaRadovan (1923–2016), and Nina Cassian (1924–2014), were commemorated on the occasion of the centenary of their birth. Like-minded, shaped by the atmosphere of interwar Bucharest and collaborating with the same left-wing literary publications, both Nina Cassian and Maia Radovan debuted around the same time within the avant-garde literary movement. It was a leftist literary direction, yet refined and full of imagination. In 1947, the political regime in Romania changed, and the literaturewritten by these two authors was rejected. In Nina Cassian’s case, her debut book was banned, while Maia Radovan’s first bookof allegorical fairy tales was not accepted by publishers. These two authors were strongly marked by the ideological context, butbecause they had culture, willpower, and talent, they recovered and dedicated their lives to literature.
