Summary/Abstract: The Latin inscriptions, as well as bilingual, in Latin and Aramaic, discovered in Dacia attest to the status of the Palmyrene soldiers in the hierarchy of the Roman army and bear witness to the progressive integration into Roman society of the province in the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD. After serving in the Roman army, Palmyrene soldiers settled in cities where Palmyrene units were stationed. They gained access to important civil and religious positions, sometimes becoming local elites in cities such as Sarmizegetusa, Porolissum, Tibiscum and Potaissa. They actively participated in Palmyrene cults, particularly those of Malagbel, Iarḥibol and Bel, while cooperating with Roman authorities and local elites. Their social advancement is often accompanied by local roots, resulting in mixed marriages and the partial adoption of Latin names. The Palmyrene soldiers and veterans played a key role as vectors of religious and cultural diffusion in Dacia and across the Roman Empire.
