Summary/Abstract: The material traces, such as bilingual epitaphs, in Latin and Aramaic, engraved on steles or altars, discovered in the fort of Tibiscum in Dacia, confirm the presence of Palmyrene soldiers in the region. This presence is explained by the existence of Palmyrene units within the Roman army, that participated in the wars of the 2nd-3rd centuries AD, from the reign of Trajan to that of the Severans, to defend the borders of the Empire. The data from these inscriptions shed light on the movements of Palmyrene soldiers away from Palmyra and their active role in the defending of the Roman Empire, as well as their contribution to cultural diversity in the region of Dacia where they settled.
