Summary/Abstract: The posterity of Avram Iancu in the Romanian extra-Carpathian area is a subject that has been less treated, and the bicentenary of his birth gives us the opportunity to try to study the proposed topic. For a better analysis of the material, we divided the period (1872–1918) into three stages: 1872–1892; 1892–1914; 1914–1918. We stopped over thirty publications from the cities of Bucharest, Iași, Bârlad, of various political orientations (conservative, liberal, radical, socialist). At the same time, we also read the calendars of the time, literature, drama, memoirs of those directly involved in the revolution of 1848–1849, alongside Avram Iancu. Our conclusions can be summarized as follows: in the first stage, the writings about Avram Iancu relate facts, events during the revolution of 1848–1849, its program, relations between the leaders of Transylvania, between them and those of Wallachia and Moldavia, news about the life of the „king of the mountains”; in the second stage, the myth of the hero is outlined, in the conditions of the organization of the national struggle in Transylvania and in the Kingdom of Romania; in the in the last stage, the figure of Avram Iancu and his destiny become arguments in the joining of Romania to the Entente.
