Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to discuss the measurement inventorying of architectural monuments carried out by the Society for the Protection of Monuments of the Past within the framework of the Labour Fund subsidy in the years 1933–1934. The Society’s measurement-taking campaign is presented in the context of the Great Depression, which brought construction enterprises in the entire Poland to an almost total standstill and thus caused exceptional unemployment among architects, especially those of the younger generation. The Labour Fund was to help combat unemployment by initiating public works that supplied jobs to white-collar workers, architects and art historians among them. What is more, the aim of the Society’s campaign was to continue making the scholarly inventory initiated by state authorities; as a result, the entire action was carried out with direct support from the Central Bureau for Inventorying Artistic Monuments at the Ministry of Religious Denominations and Public Enlightenment. During the campaign, about a hundred architectural monuments were inventoried, located in a number of voivodships (including the Kielce, Warsaw, Silesia and Cracow ones); the collection of over 500 measurement photographs was ultimately transferred to the Central Bureau’s archive.
