Summary/Abstract: Two – so called – structural reforms of the teacher education for the 2nd and 3rd ISCED school levels were implemented in Hungary in the last decades. The first one was a crucial component of the introduction of the Bologna principles into the Hungarian higher education, where the choice of the teacher training happened after the fulfillment of the requirements of a disciplinary Bachelor degree. The second reform after the governmental change in 2010 aimed at the more traditional one-way continuous teacher education with an early professional engagement and choice the double subject orientation. The number of the applicants in both cases were low and gradually diminished. The study proposes a combination of the two models: the reopening the Bologna version as well for a further opportunity for attracting candidates to the teacher profession on the basis of the first scholarly experience at the university studies and for the more free choice of the subject orientations (i.e. integrative interdiscilinary subjects, or teaching of a subject on a foreign language).
