Summary/Abstract: This paper analyses the legislation relAting to the episcopalis audientia of Emperor Constantine I and subsequent Roman emperors in the Codex Theodosianus and the Constitutiones Sirmondianae, as well as the authenticity of the latter Collectio constitutionum. The issue of appeals against the decisions of the episcopal court and the problem of the original regime of (in)appealability of the decisions of the episcopus – iudex are discussed.
