Summary/Abstract: Kants of the XVIIIth century as monuments of Belarusian writing The article is dedicated to the identification of the problems that arise during the linguistic study of poems-songs known as kants. Kants and psalms, as one of their varieties, were widespread in Belarusian lands in the XVIIth–XVIIIth centuries and are known in modern times as part of various manuscript collections. The article states that scientific attention to kants is manifested primarily by musicologists and literary scholars, and the linguistic study of kants is very limited. A comparison of the publication of the texts of individual kants from the Kouranty collection of 1733 is made, some observations on the language of these kants are given, on the basis of which the main problems of the linguistic study of such works are outlined. It is claimed that Belarusian-language kants as popular original author's works of the XVIIIth century are a striking example of the use of the Belarusian language in written form and violate the stereotyped opinion about its decline during this period.
