Summary/Abstract: In the article, we analyze the current state of the practical use of the Rusyn language in the official sphere in the context of the implementation of the Act on the Use of Languages of National Minorities in Slovakia. Since the approval of the new government regulation, the number of bilingual Rusyn villages/towns has increased to 154 as of March 1, 2022. In them, the Rusyn language will become an official language along with the Slovak language and will also have a bilingual sign. Visual bilingualism plays a big role in strengthening the national identity of the Rusyn population, even if people rarely realize it. Therefore, in the article we evaluate the level of visual bilingualism in villages and towns that have actively started the processes of public marking of streets, memorial sites, tourist attractions and private shops in the Rusyn language in recent years.
