Summary/Abstract: This article explores the figure of Saint John of Damascus, one of the most representative theologians of the Eastern Church during the third patristic period. Far from being merely a compiler, John stands as a systematic thinker and synthesizer of Christian theology, particularly in the field of icon theology, where his formulations became classical. His life and work are analyzed against the backdrop of the political and religious transformations of the 7th and 8th centuries, focusing on the fall of Damascus, the role of the Mansur family in the Umayyad administration, and John’s later contribution as a monk and theologian at the Monastery of Saint Sabbas. Through a combination of historical analysis and theological interpretation, the paper highlights the dual dimension of John of Damascus: as both a product of his historical environment and a decisive shaper of Christian thought.
