Summary/Abstract: The „landlers” are ethnically Austrians from the Southern Austria, then in the Habsburg Empire (especially from Karinthia). They accepted the Religious Reform in the XVI-XVII centuries. From these reasons, Imperial Court of Viena had decided to impose the Roman-Catholic confession to all inhabitants. The religious secession was then prohibited. As the „landlers” had embraced the Reform religious confessions, they became dangerous enemies for the political authority. The decision to be deported in Transylvania was considered in order to outnumber the Orthodox Romanian inhabitants, even the „landlers” were protestants in their beliefs. The article reveals the main aspects of the evolution of the „landlers” from Southern Transylvania, especially, cultural and traditional aspects and habits. During their existence there were some elements of approach by the Saxon population near Sibiu, Cristian, Apold and other Saxon settlements which were near Romanian settlements.
