Summary/Abstract: The general objective of this study is to demonstrate a productive mechanism of term formation in botany—namely, the metaphorical construction with patronymic bases. This approach to term formation was adopted by scholars through reference to familiar realities-. The analogy is drawn from zoomorphic, anthropomorphic, literary, and toponymic domains, among others. The methodological framework consists in the description of the source domains of the metaphors with patronymic bases: the names of botanists, directors of botanical gardens, physicians, pharmacists, and other notable figures. The primary conclusion that may be drawn is that numerous botanical terms were created with the aim of preserving the memory of some personalities who contributed to the advancement of science. The advantages are twofold: conceptual—ensuring the monosemy of terms and cultural—providing a distinctive social dimension.
