Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the issue of linguistic and ethnic assimilation of the population of Banské the village, which until the 1970s identified itself as Rusyns based on the active use of the local Rusyn dialect. In the following decades, significant changes took place, which is also pointed out by the paper. Its goal is to clarify the processes, factors, causes and course of the assimilation of local inhabitants, including through the disclosure of hidden connections, such as the intensification of residents leaving for work in towns, the role of education and the church in this process. To clarify the issue, it is also necessary to know the previous state, including the elements that helped to maintain the Rusyn language and Rusyn awareness in the village until the second half of the 20th century.
