Summary/Abstract: The article presents the significance of Lviv in Polish culture, using the example of higher education in electrical engineering. It highlights the importance of Galicia’s autonomy and its multinational character in shaping Lviv’s unique position in Polish history until 1918. It describes the development of technical higher education in Lviv and the local higher education in electrical engineering, as well as its impact on the broader education landscape in Poland. The article also outlines the fate of the Polish, Ukrainian, and Jewish populations of eastern Galicia and Volhynia during and after World War II. It concludes with a discussion of contemporary efforts dedicated to commemorating the ‘Lviv phenomenon’ in Polish higher education in electrical engineering, as well as initiatives promoting Polish-Ukrainian cooperation in this field.
