Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to provide a more comprehensive picture of the regular local elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina, held on October 6, 2024, both in the Republic of Srpska and in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Brčko District. The paper will deal with the overall political context that followed the elections, present the development of the political-party system in the three constituent nations - Serbs, Bosniaks and Croats and the political entities that took part in these elections, as well as the electoral rules under which local elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina are maintained. Finally, after analyzing the results, basic conclusions are to be given about the messages sent by the voters in these elections and to offer predictions about the future development of the political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the same time, the authors are bearing in mind national and entity elections and local elections which, in accordance with the electoral legislation, are held in the regular term, two years after the national elections i.e. halfway through the mandate of the authorities at higher levels. As such, the local elections in 2024 are a kind of “barometer” election ahead of the next elections for the bodies of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the entities, which are planned for 2026. At the elections, the 2SNSD won among the Serbs, the 3HDZBiH among the Croats, who are in power, while the opposing 4SDA won among the Bosniaks, which will certainly have its political consequences in the coming period in the run-up to the general elections in two years.
