Drug problems in Great Britain. Possible suggestions for Czech-British analytical co-operation in the field of fight against drugs

Summary/Abstract: The article presents an analysis of the issue of the fight against narcotics in the UK in three selected aspects: a) in the aspect of laws and laws on drug activity of British authorities, b) in the aspect of British analytical narcotics texts prepared for central London‘s Government and for European Monitoring Center for Drugs and Drug Addiction in Lisboa and for Europol c) in the aspect of some possible topics of Czech- British cooperation in the context of the research project “Elemental characterization of microstructures and narcotic psychotropic substances by nuclear analytical methods” at the Police Academy of the Czech Republic in Prague. The article also presents some results of British and Czech opinion polls on drug issues. This analysis in the results reveals that, despite the large investments (financial, professional, material or capacity) of the British Government in the fight against drugs, a completely satisfactory situation cannot be established. Alarming is the future negative tendency of the future development, which is stated both by the British authorities and by the opinion of the public. However, the situation in other European countries is very similar. In this respect, it is desirable that close international cooperation of all stakeholders continues.
