Local organizers and perpetrators of the Holocaust from the Kraków Gestapo. The case of the “Jewish section”

Summary/Abstract: This article analyzes the role of officers from the Kraków Gestapo’s sub--department IV-B-1 in the systematic and planned extermination of Jewsin Kraków. It attempts to describe the involvement of the heads of thissub-department in the looting of Jewish property and in crimes com-mitted against Jews. Based on available historical sources from boththe Second World War and the postwar period (of various origins), thearticle presents the methods used by the Gestapo and its informant networkto locate Jews hiding on the so-called “Aryan side” as well as thoseescaping from the General Government. The text follows a chronologicaland thematic structure, focusing mainly on the period from autumn 1939to the end of 1944.
