Summary/Abstract: These days, propaganda has been an essential tool in shaping public opinion and influencing political decisions throughout history, evolving from ancient inscriptions to contemporary digital disinformation campaigns. In this context, the article explores the transition of propaganda from Bolshevism in the 20th century to its current forms, analysing its impact within the framework of information warfare. Propaganda has been defined in various ways, with each author offering distinct perspectives on its nature and mechanisms. This article aims to elucidate both the evolution of propaganda models and how propaganda and disinformation manifest in the informational space of the Republic of Moldova. The aim of propaganda in this case is to fuel the fears of the population in the separatist region regarding a NATO ‘invasion’ and the subsequent Westernisation of the country and/or even unification with Romania. The same narrative is aimed at national minorities in the Republic of Moldova, generally Russians, such as the Gagauz, but also a large proportion of Romanians who are nostalgic for the former USSR and/or attached to and educated in the spirit of Veloco-Russian culture. Treated as a multidimensional phenomenon, propaganda has become an effective and dangerous weapon, as well as a conventional one. In an interconnected global environment where the flow of information is continuous, analysing propaganda from a socio-communicational and politico-military perspective is essential to understanding and counteracting the destructive influences it can generate. Identifying this type of propaganda narrative and opposing it thus becomes a difficult but necessary task in any democratic society.
