Summary/Abstract: Cross-border remote work (telework) raises a number of legal uncertainties, including those relatedto determining the applicable legislation for social security matters. This article presentsthe basic legal framework in the area of social security in the European Union and discusses thechallenges related to applying these regulations to cross-border remote workers. Further, the EUframework agreement on cross-border telework concluded in 2023 is analyzed; the shortcomingsof this agreement are indicated. Moreover, the need for legislative action and the adoptionof more flexible and modern rules for the coordination of social security in the European Unionis stressed.
