Summary/Abstract: Professor Corneliu Bîrsan leaves behind a profoundly moving scientific legacy within the Romanian legal-cultural sphere. His work is distinguished by the sharpness and refinement of his legal theories and arguments, the Francophone influence he brought to European civil law, and the unwavering inner good faith that guided both his professional and personal life. His persona—marked by rigor, sobriety, and professional austerity—was naturally and beautifully complemented by kindness, humanity, love, and light. Jurists often resort to rhetorical praise even when precise judgments would be more appropriate. In this case, however, both the accolades and the facts fully reflect the reality of the work and the person we honor today. Preserving and advancing the legacy left by Professor Corneliu Bîrsan is the challenge he entrusted to all of us—especially to jurists—as a way to overcome vanity and indifference, which hinder our ability to coherently connect the present with the past and future of Romanian law.
