Summary/Abstract: The study examines the role of the Bulgarian theatre Smeshen Petak as a key factor in the revival and preservation of Bulgarian culture in the Republic of Moldova. The historical context of the Bessarabian Bulgarians and the necessity of cultural self-assertion in a multicultural environment are presented. The theatre’s activities, its leaders, creative endeavours, and impact on the community, particularly on the younger generation, are analysed. Significant productions that contribute to the preservation of the language, traditions, and national identity are discussed. The conclusions emphasise the importance of the theatre not only as a cultural institution but also as a tool for counteracting assimilation, building cultural bridges in Moldovan society and among the Bessarabian Bulgarians, and maintaining strong ties with the Republic of Bulgaria.
