Summary/Abstract: The article explains the importance of Poland's coastal location from the pointof view of energy security. Due to its policy of limiting the extraction of fossil fuels fromits own onshore deposits, Poland is becoming increasingly dependent on energysupplies via sea routes and on energy generated in the Baltic Sea region. Existing (e.g.,LNG terminal, Baltic Pipe) and planned (e.g., nuclear energy or offshore wind energy)investments raise hopes that onshore wind energy will be supplemented by offshorewind energy. All this is intended to ensure the security of energy supplies to Poland andstrengthen the country's position in the regional and international arena as anintermediary in Eastern European countries' access to the global energy market.
