Summary/Abstract: Since the end of the Korean War, Japan has become a rapidly growing economic power, reaching its peak in 1994. This was also the peak of its power within the theory of the cycle of power, the foundations of which were laid by Charles Doran. The aim of this article is to explain the relationship between Japan's foreign policy and its place in the cycle of power. The thesis that politics in general, and relations with external entities in particular, are determined by a country's position in the power cycle is also accepted. This position is determined on the basis of calculations of a given country's power over a specific period of time. The author presents Japan's power cycle and the impact of its position in the power cycle on its foreign policy in the years 1960–2023, along with a forecast for the years 2030–2075. Japan's power was measured using the “Sułek model,” and estimates for 2030–2075 were made based on forecasts contained in the reports cited in the article.
