Summary/Abstract: This study examines the change in middle school students' perceptions of the essay genre and analyzes the role of the essay book Hayatın Sessiz Uyarısı in this process. The essay is a literary genre in which individuals can express their original thoughts freely and in a personal style. However, students' interest and attitudes toward this genre are often limited to academic obligations, which causes them to approach writing processes with reluctance. Within the scope of this study, an experimental research was conducted with 44 students studying at a middle school in the Şişli district of Istanbul. The students' existing knowledge levels, writing skills, and perceptions of the essay genre were measured through a pre-test application, after which they read Hayatın Sessiz Uyarısı and participated in various writing activities. The students discussed the linguistic and stylistic features of the text and were given the opportunity to write their own essays. The posttest results revealed significant changes in students' attitudes toward the essay genre. According to the findings, students' prejudices about the essay genre decreased, they found this type of text more interesting, and their written expression skills improved. Additionally, it was observed that students became more confident in their writing processes and could express their thoughts more fluently. The findings of the study provide important insights into how literary genres can be used more effectively in education and emphasize the pedagogical functionality of the essay genre within the scope of Turkish education.
