Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article was to the describe the political reception by the Polish press of seven selected international congresses organised in 1913 in which Poles participated. These congresses were apparently apolitical, as their subjects focused on science and practising knowledge, but in fact their agendas were set up by organisational committees dominated by the British, Germans and French. Several times, press reports contained information that the Polish delegation was not recognised as a separate entity, when the organisational committees considered only national representations as official. The author of this paper describes the attempts of scientists from Polish lands under three partitions to organise themselves into one delegation, including attempts that were unsuccessful. It presents opinions on subjective results of those congresses and the political factors included in them, as expressed in reports. It also presents prejudices and complexes that affected Polish delegates.
