Summary/Abstract: The city of Peja has an ancient origin. Archaeological findings visualize that the environment where today lies down Peja was inhabited very early. It is thought it is continuance of ancient Siparanti which was born and developed as an urban centre and that is mentionned in the Ptolemy’s map of, developed in Alexandria in the middle of second century A.D. Regarding the status of this ancient dwelling sice his time Evans has expressed his opinion on possibility of existence of an municipality in Rrafsh of Dukagjin, whereas discovered epitaph in Studenicë nearby Vrella testifies existence of municipality in the area of present days Peja, about which supposed that it has to do with Ptolemy’s Siparantum. Without going deeper in the issue of the rank, it is an incontestible fact that in Peja’s “Gradina” during the firs centuries of our era there existed quite big dwelling, inhabited by Dardan population and in smaller number by foreign elements of denizens, in the state of partially Romanization. Peja during historical periods in a way has changed its name but also its place. It moved from east towards the west, from the walleye towards the Grykë e Rugovës (Gorge of Rugova), but always and mainly by the left and right side of the river Bistrica /ancient Lum-Bardhi (white River), before it got its Slavic hydronym/ exactly by the river side.
