Summary/Abstract: The study reacts to the abundance of titles with environmental themes on the Czech book market, both translated titles and works by Czech authors. The aim is to comprehensively identify the impulses that prompted the entry and promotion of environmental themes into contemporary book production. The authors believe that, in addition to external impulses, long-term experience with negative effects of extensive economy and industrialization, passed down through generations, played and still plays a role. The study references traditions of natural prose in literature for both adults and children, then presents a selected segment of contemporary works for children and young people with environmental themes. It defines the age spectrum of potential readers, monitors genres where the theme is most prevalent, and notes changes within those genres, paying particular attention to narrative prose and non-fiction literature. Prominent trends in non-fiction, including changes in the ratio of textual and visual components and innovations in the connection of words and images, are highlighted. Specific titles by male and female authors are introduced, where the reflection of environmental issues is combined with artistic quality.
