Summary/Abstract: The article is a response to the ongoing discussions on the state of and necessary changes in the Czech primary and secondary education. The author analyses whether the proposed changes have a potential to create conditions for a more significant introduction of innovative methods to teach literature in primary schools and whether the utilised reading books have a potential to support this required qualitative shift. The text focuses on reading books for the 4th and 5th year published by Fraus and SPN publishing houses. The author investigates whether the evaluated reading books help pupils and teachers to implement such teaching that combines experiential learning with active acquisition of literary-theoretical knowledge and leads to the formation of reading experience.
