Summary/Abstract: The author provides an overview of the development of the idea of the European Political Community from the Second World War to the present day, using the theoretical model of “differentiated European integration” as a paradigmatic model. The paper shows that the idea of the European Political Community could never have come to life in a federalist context. However, it can exist today as a model of “differentiated European integration” and, in a certain way, substitute the European Union (EU) as we know it today.
