Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the beginnings of the Czech Customs Administration's organized combat against drug smugglers in the Czech Republic. It gives a summarized description of production and consumption of illicit drugs in the country in the past. Among others, the article discusses the first “modern” seizure of drugs in 1970; and also analyses the circumstances which led to establishing the Antidrug Department in March 1990 and mentions the important stages in the development of the unit during the years between its establishment and now.
