Summary/Abstract: Togo's membership in the vast English-speaking world market that is the Commonwealth requires an overhaul in a number of areas, including education, and more specifically in the teaching of English. In this study, we are particularly interested in the teaching of English in technical training. The English language skills required to take advantage of this market are out of step with those acquired by technical education learners at the end of their schooling. An overview of the factors that explain this mismatch shows that the insufficient adaptation of teaching methods and content to the learning context is at the top of the list.
