Summary/Abstract: In the Czech Republic, quantitative data on Ukrainian temporary protection holders provides an overview of their demographics and economic activity. However, it doesn't capture the complexities of individual refugee experiences. This study focuses on the narratives of 15 women who fled the war in Ukraine and found refuge in the Czech Republic. Using qualitative research methods, the transformation of their identities is analyzed. This transformation involves the deconstruction of their pre-existing national, social, and class identities and the construction of a new refugee identity. The study identifies aspects of this new identity that contribute to feelings of acceptance and belonging, including newly formed social networks, community life, and support from colleagues and neighbors.
