Summary/Abstract: This article presents the social and psychological conditions of entering the role of an employeeby people with intellectual disabilities. The social and legal-organisational barriers to entering employmentby this group are presented. The psychological aspects of becoming an employee, especiallyon the open labour market, are also analysed. Attention is drawn to the importance ofwork in the process of maturation of personality and identity and in the pursuit of autonomy.
