Problematic use of the Internet and young adults’ mental health

Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt to present the phenomenon of problematic Internet use in the contextof its potential links with other mental health issues. The objective of the presented pilot studywas to check whether there is any link between the feeling of being addicted to the Internet andthe occurrence of depression, anxiety and stress symptoms in young adults. 117 students fromthree universities took part in the study which used the authors’ questionnaire and a shortenedversion of the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS-21). The study revealed an alarmingly highlevel of depression, anxiety and stress in the group of respondents as well as a correlation betweenit and one’s declaration of being addicted to the Internet.
