The need to raise public awareness and promote appropriate attitudes regarding procreation

Summary/Abstract: Contemporary cultural patterns promoting sexual freedom, hedonistic attitudes to life, moral permissiveness, the cult of the body, the separation of the bonding and procreative significance of human sexuality, the denial of the sovereign will of God as the giver of life, mean that young people in particular are unable to find the right paradigm of human procreation. This points to the urgent need to raise the level of social awareness and to promote proper attitudes to human procreation based on the assumptions of Christian anthropology. This article, therefore, aims to present human life as the fruit of parents’ cooperation with God and issues related to responsible parenthood and sexual education. The method of critical analysis of the literature on the subject in the fields of theology, sociology and family studies has made it possible to conclude that the Christian approach to marriage involves the responsible acceptance and assumption of the entire marital and parental vocation and the acceptance of the procreative element inscribed in the sexual act. In turn, a correct sexual education should present it in a positive way, while encouraging fidelity and responsibility for the other person.
